Putting Your Family Back Together

When the state has taken custody of your child, it can seem like the most traumatic and terrifying event in the world. You want to get your children back, and the way to do that is by creating an environment that the courts believe will be healthy and safe. As a lawyer, I do more than just represent your interests as you fight to regain custody of your children; I act as an advisor to help you do the things necessary to get your kids back.

Why Has This Happened?

The state does not usually decide to remove a child from his or her home unless it has a reason to believe that a child is in danger. Common causes for child removal include:

  • Child Endangerment
  • Excessive Use of Alcohol
  • Neglect
  • Presence of Illegal Drugs
  • Addiction
  • Danger of Abuse
  • Abandonment

Even if the courts decide to make the child a ward of the state, you have the ability to fix the conditions that led to removal and fight for reinstatement of your parental rights.

What Do I Do?

Once the state has taken custody of your child, you have to prove that the conditions leading to that removal are gone permanently. If that's an abusive boyfriend, then you have to choose between him and your child. If it's abuse of drugs and neglect, then you'll have to prove that you're clean before you get your children back.

I can act as your attorney, but my more important role is often acting as your advisor. I can help you learn the things you have to do to be reunited with your child. I can help you know how to communicate with child professionals and how to act during court hearings.
